Giving Fund

One of the aims of East Church is to bless and support other organisations, both prayerfully and financially. The PCC has decided that approximately 10% from the income received from our congregations should support six charities throughout 2026. These charities have been chosen by the members of the PCC’s ‘Giving Group’. The church is keen to develop strong partnerships with each charity and support their prayer needs on a regular basis. Below is some key information about each cause.

In addition, the Giving Fund is keen to support those from the congregation who might be considering a short-term mission project. Grants of up to £500 are available. Applicants can be made below.

Our short-term mission grant is currently supporting Digby Harrison with his work with YWAM.

  • Founded in Sierra Leone in 2008, Street Child works in over 20 of the world’s poorest and most disaster-affected countries, including Afghanistan, Ukraine and Somalia. Their main objective is to see all children safe in school and learning, especially in low resource environments and emergencies.

The CEO of Street Child, Tom Dannat (and his family), attends East Church and the church has had strong links with the charity over many years through a variety of fundraising efforts, including runners being sponsored for the annual Sierra Leone marathon.

There is now a Churches for Street Child strand, with regular updates about the charity’s work and prayer pointers being sent out to churches and supporters.

  • Hope in Burundi is a charity established to directly support the work of Restoration of Hope in Burundi – one of the least developed countries in the world. Restoration of Hope was started by Honda and Libby Nahimana in 2004 to help the street children of Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. The congregation St Barnabas (one of the three East Church sites) has been supporting the charity for a number of years.

  • CCN trains and supports volunteer mentors to walk alongside prison leavers, offering practical, emotional, and spiritual support as they begin to rebuild their lives. CCN is a Christian charity, and at its heart is the principle that everyone has inherent value, regardless of their past, and should be given compassion, forgiveness and hope. CCN employs a small staff team to recruit, train and support volunteer mentors to assist people leaving prison to resettle after custody and reduce the likelihood of re-offending. They are based at the warm and welcoming St Stephen’s Church café in Norwich city centre and work with anyone aged 18+ who is leaving prison to live anywhere in Norfolk.

  • In 2011, Rosie Sexton, from Holy Trinity Church Norwich, decided to start up a free weekly English class. This came in response to meeting people who were new to Norwich but were struggling to adjust to life here due to their lack of English. Rosie had a desire to make people feel welcome in their new home and to offer them friendship and community. Beginning with just 4 students of one nationality, English+ now supports over 300 people of more than 50 nationalities, meeting at different church venues across the city every week.

In 2015 English+ began working more closely with two other local charities, New Routes and The Bridge Plus+, to form the Norwich Integration Partnership. Members of our church work for English+ and the church has long-standing connections with the charity, through fundraising and hosting events.

  • Home for Good and Safe Families hope for a society where no family feels alone, and every child has a home where they can flourish. They believe the Church is central to this vision. By co-ordinating and resourcing a rapidly growing network of people, churches and local movements across the UK, they are raising awareness of the needs of vulnerable children and young people, inspiring individuals to explore fostering, adoption and supported lodgings and equipping churches to understand and offer support.
